The Halloween Train!
Today we went to Duncan to the Forestry Center to ride the 'Halloween Express'. We went in the day as the kids (or at least our oldest kid!) would have been freaked out by the nighttime ride as once it got dark as they had spooky music and people jumping out of trees etc!
The funniest thing was the conductor of the train who was narrating as we went along the line. I'm sure it won't sound funny at all written down but the adults amongst us were creased up laughing. He was an old Native guy who had obviously memorized the script (badly) in his head. There was not even the least bit of emotion put into what he was saying which made it absolutely hilarious and not the least bit frightening. For example in the picture below which is the old saw house he was saying things like "here comes the old saw house -watch out or you might lose a limb" read in the worst robot like voice you can imagine and it won't come close to how bad he sounded! Ahhh I'm pretty sure you had to be there anyway so I'll stop going on!
Later while the kids were playing in the park we saw 2 Eagles building a nest in the trees literally right next to/ above us. I have never seen Eagles so close before, It was absolutely the most amazing thing. They were flying above us with sticks back and forth to their nest.. Of course I took pictures with my phone which just didn't do it justice at all as I could barely make it out on the phone but here they are anyway!

Splash Mountain
I don't think I mentioned in my Disney post that although Eli was terrified of some of the Character rides - the ones that were like a slow car/train type thing that went on a track in the dark though a story and had scary characters popping out etc- Alice in Wonderland for example - he was not afraid to go on on roller coasters! This is us - Wendy at the front then Eli and me - coming down the last drop on Splash Mountain! Thanks again to Wendy for being such a lovely Aunt and sitting at the front to absorb all the water for us:-)
The other one he loved but Wendy and I hated was Goofys Flight School. Felt like we were going to come right off the track it was horrible! This is not us but here is a picture of it.
It's a hard life Eli
Eli: [Said in the most whiny, sorry for himself voice] "I wish I was Franklin" (as in the annoying turtle - kids TV show)
Me: "Why?"
Eli: [Same annoying, hard done to, whiny voice] "Because he gets everything that he wants, I never get anything I want."
Me: Some random remark about having a shell and how inconvenient that would be.
All because I wouldn't let him bring some big massive toy in the car :-)

Today...
The kids' friends were over they had so much fun in the back garden running through the leaves and throwing them up in the air (and at each other!) They did it for ages. |
Imogen particularly thought it was fantastic! |
I included this because Eli snuck up behind me and dumped a pile of leaves over my head as I was taking photos! |

Fire Station tour
Eli had a trip with his school group to the firehall yesterday. He was so funny. He practically attached himself to the firefighter giving the tour. He asked so many questions (including "can we see your bedroom") As we were leaving he said "I was much braver than last time we went wasn't I mum". (Last time he was 3 and was so freaked out by the test alarm that he wouldn't look at anything and glued himself to me)

This past few days...
A new Beaver Scout
Eli has been in Beavers since the beginning of September but tonight they moved from being 'kit' (new beavers) to 'eager beavers'. They had an investiture ceremony where they had to recite their pledges, motto and promise and then they were presented with their badges, neckers, toggle and beaver tail! It was all so official - the boys thought it was great and were ultra excited about it!
Eli and Daley...waiting for the investiture ceremony to begin. Would you believe that Daley is 3 months older than my giant Eli?!! |
Said their motto, promise and whatever else it was they had to say and received their 'neckers'. They were VERY excited by this part! |
Eli shaking his leaders hand. It was all very official, so cute! |

Playing babies
The last few days they have been playing babies together so nicely. This basically involves racing around the house as fast as possible while pushing a stroller each. Eli's baby is named coochie coochie coo. Imogens was named 'head'. I love this picture even though it's a bit blurry because of the way Imogen is looking at Eli. She checks out everything he does first to make sure she is doing exactly the same. Here she was looking to see what kind of smile/face he was doing so that she could copy!

Inventions
Eli made this today. It's a fixing machine incase it wasn't immediately obvious! You place whatever is broken in the middle and the grey 'tool' fixes it. There is a lever at the back to turn it on. It took him about an hour to make!
Did I mention that he totally, completely, 100% believes that it really works...
